Greetings. Instead of our normal monthly newsletter this month, I chose to write to you about changes at Rose Computers in 2011, and tell you about our plans for 2012. I want our newsletter to be useful to you, the reader, and not a marketing tactic. I have found the articles supplied to us somewhat limited, and vow to you to increase the detail and value of the information presented in 2012.
| Rose Computer Holiday Hours: Closed Monday 12/26 and Closed Monday 1/2 |
We will be closed as listed above to celebrate life with our family and friends. We wish you all Happy Holidays and time with your friends and family. Please contact Dave as soon as possible if you need support coverage on either of these two days.
2011 was a year of growth at Rose Computers. We added Dave Miles, a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer to our team of engineers, and grew our business and client base significantly. We became a VITL preferred Technology Service Provider and added numerous medical offices to our managed service client base. We began offering Managed Print Services, and now offer Multi-Function print/scan/fax devices to our clients. We grew our cloud services by over 200%. We implemented numerous standard operating procedures and best practices for client protection and service delivery.
Our theme and commitment to you for 2012 will be to do more with less. We will bring you more value without more charges. We continue to enhance our tools and technology used to deliver service and IT support. We continue to evaluate and test new technologies to offer and utilize “best of breed” products to you, our clients. As we continue to grow our client base and staff, Rose Computers is committed to providing the same immediate or near immediate response you have come to expect.

It is inevitable to have to upgrade any kind of software sooner or later. This is now true for Windows XP, as Microsoft has announced a discontinuation of support for the operating system in 2014. Microsoft recommends upgrading to the newer Windows 7 OS, which is something worth considering as early as now.
Many SMBs are unaware that hackers are finding online banking transactions to be profitable and easy targets for cyber-attacks because of several weaknesses in the security systems not only of both organizations, but also in the authentication protocols between them.
With the King street dock underwater, Rose Computers brought a server from King Street back to our office and re-routed VPN traffic the keep the Ferries computerized system running smoothly.
Internet security is an issue not to be taken lightly. As an increasing number of businesses use the web for more efficient operations, there is also more risk of being affected by malware and viruses. But thanks to initiatives such as WebBlaze and BitBlaze from Professor Dawn Song, developers are better equipped to make more effective IT security systems.
One thing is clear, quality is still more important than quantity. Especially with the current economic downturn, people are downsize everything – including online social circles.
These days, more and more people are on the go, and many of them bring their work with them. While connecting to public and open-access Wi-Fi hotspots is indeed convenient, using open networks also pose risks that endanger your security.
