As Macs find there way into more business offices, not only are more security flaws being discovered on the Mac OS and programs, but more viruses are being designed to specifically target those vulnerabilities.

Macs are famous for a lot of things – some true, some false. For instance, many people believe that Macs are virus- and malware-proof – but unfortunately that’s not true. Just because many of the malware and viruses out there are targeted toward the Windows OS, Macs are not impervious to attack. The operative word is “targeted”. Security firms and experts are learning that since people tend to be more complacent security-wise when using a Mac, they make for good targets for unscrupulous online scammers, fraudsters, and thieves.
While the scale of the threat can be debated the fact is that any system on your business network needs adequate protection – including MACs, and there are now attacks specifically designed to attack the Mac OS platforms.

If you aren’t convinced, then this video might just turn you into a believer. Here, a Mac anti-virus program catches a would-be Trojan. And that’s just one of the many hundreds of thousands of Mac viruses and malware out there.

Whether you use Windows or Mac, you need malware protection – because all it takes is a single incident to threaten the security of your network. If you have MAC’s in your office and are not sure you are adequately protected, ask for Michal at Rose CTS, and he can discuss getting them protected, and providing additional services and capabilities for them.

wotDo you want to know if a website is safe to visit? Web of Trust offers a fast, efficient, effective, and simple way to check the safety of each and every website you visit.

It’s a simple, straightforward approach to getting better security for your computer: download software, install it, and have it check if a website is safe or not.

That, in a nutshell, is what Web of Trust does. This nifty little program is designed to help you filter out and block potentially harmful websites that many people unwittingly stumble into time and again. It’s the perfect solution for anti-phishing and helping keep your system free of malware – at least from stray clicking. While not a replacement for up-to-date anti-virus and other security software, it is an additional tool at your disposal.

The program does not have anything to offer on your computer’s desktop because it embeds itself into your Firefox or Internet Explorer browser for quick access. Depending on the Web site you visit, the program’s icon turns red, yellow, or green to illustrate the danger level. Clicking on the icon displays a chart showcasing Trustworthiness, Vendor Reliability, Privacy, and Child Safety. With the free Web of Trust browser add-on, (for either Internet Explorer or Firefox) you can easily see the reliability of companies and websites. Web of Trust will warn you and save your computer before you interact with a harmful site.

You can learn more about Web of Trust or download it from http://www.mywot.com. If you want to know how you can use Web of Trust or other tools to keep your systems safe, please don’t hesitate to give us a call and we’ll be more than happy to discuss a custom security policy with you.
